I wanted a decent, cheap, pocket sized compact camera that doesn’t skimp too much on features/focus/mpixels etc, that I can take to parties and events and not have to worry about too much compared to my Dslr.

I saw this one, thought the spec for the price was one of the best around, to be honest I’ve been fairly happy with it but it’s not quite as good as I thought it would be and I am sadly a little disappointed.

The biggest disappointment is not picture quality as I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as my Fujifilm S4000 although for 10 mega pixels and rave reviews it could be a little better, no the biggest problem is the stupid flash, huge delays between the camera being ready to take the next picture and the fact that it eats batteries

I use rechargeables – always have done but whereas they would last absolutely ages in my old fujifilm – they barely last through an evening in this little thing! It’s actually so annoying I might disown this little nikon and buy another different make, my friend was using a little compact Panasonic and I was very impressed by the quality of his pictures, just need to ask him how long the batteries last.

Anyway, with the big whinge out the way I’ll try and offer a fair over view

It is cheap (but maybe there is a reason for that having bought one) It’s very simple to use out of the box, has a very good Zoom and lots of (maybe too many) shooting modes – I tend to just keep it on auto. It takes 2 AA batteries _ liked this cause it means you can always buy them anywhere if you forget your charger or they run out unexpectedly! However it would be great to have an optional in built LION battery too.. (but maybe not for this money) It looks good, not too flashy, nice weight, easy to hold, big clear screen on the back, takes SD cards. It’s very hard to accidently turn on with the slightly sunken switch which is good.

In summary – good outdoors in good light

Terrible on batteries and not good images if you want to be taking pictures indoors under artificial light

excellent little camera and really excellent delivery. The camera was (apart from inserting the batteries) set to go, and I was very impressed with the results (and enlargements). Knowing a bit about ‘old fashioned photography’ it was nice to see the cameras settings coming on screen automaticaly and there are a lot of options for more advanced picture taking. Only one small niggle and that was the cover over the mini usb connector. With short nails it is not easy. One last thing, make sure you download the camera manual, I was amazed at how much this little camera can do. Well worth the money,

Average camera but this is the one if all you care is waterproof!!, 29 May 2011

I decided to buy the TG-610 because it has decent specs at a good price compared to other offerings such as from Sony and Panasonic. I was also very satisfied another Olympus waterproof camera I had owned and decided to go for its quality.

When I unboxed my unit I was disappointed that it is mostly made out of plastic. My past Olympus unit (790SW) was similarly priced but it was a metal body! I haven’t used it in water but fingers-crossed it performs just as expected or better than my older camera! Afterall it has a higher rating on underwater depth!

The menus are relatively easy to use but not the best out there. Response to key presses are sometimes delayed but acceptable.
Screen is large and bright. Very good resolution for a camera priced at this price!
Zoom range is good, and very surprised that optical zoom is available during video recording!
The time to turn on the unit is a bit disappointing, but probably because I am used to DSLRs.
Picture quality is average, but again, probably I am spoilt by better cameras. Especially noise control is very poor.

The verdict: If you want a fully-featured waterproof camera at a good price, this is the one.
If you intend to use this one out of the water most of the time, then buy something else!!

just want to say this, the picture and video quality is fantastic, 14mp and 5x optical zoom with optional digital zoom which is half decent. The waterproofness is good, but I do have one thing which is that the clip for the battery and sd compartment is very easy to open, I thought a stronger clip would be used as well as a bigger water seal since the one it has is a bit small but works fine.
Another thing I would like to say is that the shockproofness does not mean it wont damage the camera, I accidently knocked it from my bed to the carpet floor (3ft) and part of the zoom button has snapped off, still works but just thought I would say that’s a weak point.
The magic settings are very good as well, with an awesome fish eye, underwater and wide modes, cat and dog settings as well as a load of scene settings like indoor and party and beauty shots which make you look good, oh and a self shot mode which is good because it take the pic very fast so you don’t look weird, overall an amazing camera

…Lovely strong camera…dropped it already after opening box…hows that?…just bounced back,not a scratch…pictures are great and much better than i was expecting…video is, well just like a proper camcorder, will take it to maldives soon so will report about underwater performance,i have several top class cameras so not using this as a comparison as non of them offer the toughness of this one especially underwater ….but up to now am very happy with it… only gripe is day after i bought it from amazon the price dropped £20…always happens with them.at least i know they dont mess with returns as happened once before…top people as long as you are honest…

As soon as it arrived i was excited to open the box, seeing the great lens that it is. I tried it out on the camera and noticed a huge difference in view.<br/><br/>I took it out the same day and did a few hours of recording with my new lens. It was great fun, when i got home i messed about going through the footage i no longer needed, and saw that the lens hood was in the way of the edges of the screen. Which ruined the footage i had recorded as i would like it to be perfect. But with a bit more reading up, you can remove the lens hood if you don't feel that you need it. It's simple to do, just make sure to keep the little screws safe.<br/><br/>Luckily for me the footage i had recorded was just practise footage, so i wasn't too swore about not using it.<br/><br/>In all the lens is a great item, well worth the money. I recently bought this Opteka lens for my Canon HG10 camcorder for skateboarding and bmx recording use.

I did a lot of research into the item before consider buying it, so i knew i would be getting something that is going to do me well. As soon as it arrived i was excited to open the box, seeing the great lens that it is. I tried it out on the camera and noticed a huge difference in view.

I took it out the same day and did a few hours of recording with my new lens. It was great fun, when i got home i messed about going through the footage i no longer needed, and saw that the lens hood was in the way of the edges of the screen. Which ruined the footage i had recorded as i would like it to be perfect. But with a bit more reading up, you can remove the lens hood if you don’t feel that you need it. It’s simple to do, just make sure to keep the little screws safe.

Luckily for me the footage i had recorded was just practise footage, so i wasn’t too swore about not using it.

In all the lens is a great item, well worth the money. If your recording any action sports, and want to get up close, this lens is well worth the investment.

I got this lens for my Canon 550d. I already have the 18mm-135mm and a 50mm lens so I thought this would be a nice focal length to add to my collection. This is a great lens and the image stabiliser is fantastic. Yes its a cheapish lens but produces the goods and can be honest in saying I am very happy with it. Go on buy it!!
